I was reading Chris Pirillo’s blog today and watched the video that he recorded on his views about who owns the comments on blogs/youtube or such other services. I liked the topic so I thought that I would write a little blog entry about it - and state my thoughts on the matter!
My first thought would be that the writer of the comment would be the owner of the comment, as they are the one that created the original content! There are some people that say the person that is hosting the comment (youtube, blog owner or suchlike) would be the one that owns the comment, due to the fact that you’re using their space - but I strongly disagree with this due to the fact that if you park your car on a public car park it does not belong to the owner of the car park, after all - you’re also using their space… So it is a very similar situation (just with physical objects rather than virtual objects).
What you also have to think about it that not all comments are completely unique, in the way that if you were to comment a blog saying ‘I completely agree, I think the same‘, chances are that someone else has already written the same content on another website/service (or possibly be the same website/service) before you have. Does this mean that you’re in breach of copy right? Does this mean that you co-own the comment?
You also have to think about the fact that the content gets cached around other websites due to search indexing and quotations (if someone was to quote your blog entry in their blog, so they can write a reply to it and possibly send you a link back). Does this mean that they are also in breech of copyright or similar laws? Even though you write where the respective author originates and give them full credit for their content? It also gets cached in search engines like google and yahoo and many many more - they don’t ask you if they are allowed to download and save your content- although you can use a robots.txt file to disallow them, They don’t ask permission first - should this really be allowed?
My opinion is the fact that the person that wrote the content is the person that owns it, whether its a comment, blog post, entry in an online diary system or any other kind of content.
Yes, that’s right - I am actually going to be writing a post about my thoughts on FireFox 3!
My first thoughts were the fact that the installation was rather… old looking - and I thought that it was going to be a lot more intuitive than previous installation versions. But it did install without any issues (even on VISTA!).
My next thought was that it loaded up a hell of a lot faster than previous versions of FireFox - which I thought was pretty awesome.
After loading it up - I thought wow, it looks really nice & clean. With previous versions of FireFox I thought it looked rather cluttered and bulky. I also fell in love with the “bookmark this page” even though I prefer to use my own custom PHP generated homepage, I still liked this feature.
For me the loading time of pages is extensively faster than Internet Explorer - although they still have that nasty “render while loading” effect - where you seen like it put the page together. I hate that, I would much prefer it to just….. wait for it all to download and then show me the page. But, at the speed that FireFox 3 actually loads the page, what have I got to complain about?
Switching between tabs seems a lot speedier than with previous versions of FireFox and also with Internet Explorer - but maybe that is just my imagination - who knows!
Anyway, I hear that Tribe over at SlashSwirl.info is going to be making a blog post about his thoughts on FireFox 3 and is also going to be posting a top 5 list of Addons for FireFox in the near future - be sure to check that out!
I’m not feeling too well, started coming down with something yesterday - maybe the night before. Had a bit of the sniffles.
Now I’ve got a fully-pleged cold, sore throat & a very tight chest. Meh, oh well - not to worry eh?
I have been fixing the WicketPixie WordPress theme today - it had a few Database errors on installation and also had a few errors when trying to view it in Internet Explorer - although Chris Pirillo’s live version did not have these errors. I have emailed Chris with the details of what was wrong with it! Im sure the downloadable version will be fixed pretty soon guys!
I think I will write a better post tonight - I’ve got a few things on my mind that I would like to say - but not got the time right now!
I think it is about time that I gotten round to writing another post on this blog!
As you can see, there has been a few modifications installed onto the blog, WicketPixie and its accompining applicaitons. Not 100% sure if I will be keeping this as of yet - we’ll have to see!
LCS 2.0 is under going further development, a few features will be branched out into the current version to give them a quick taster of what’s going on! The only feature upgrade that has been released on current public version is the updated !prices list - check the LTC Forums for that!
For the last week or so, I’ve felt like I have been half here, half not here… Not really sure why, but I do have a few feeling as to why I might be feeling like this - but either way, I’m sure it is something that I will get over!
It’s my birthday coming up soon (6th July) - and I’m really not even getting excited, not even in the slightest. Maybe someone will say/do something that will get me excited? *shrugs* Who knows!?

Why is it that if you can’t think of something - or you just can’t be bothered with doing something, having a shower sorts it all.
I’m being serious, I got my brain stuck on a peice of coding a little while ago - went for a shower, and eh carumba there it was, coming straight from my fingers onto my keyboard - and wo-betide me, it worked!
Anyway, I know that I have not been doing my one post per day promise, but I think I shall be starting that up again, as keeping a blog is kinda important to me - not quite sure why to be honest - but it just is, okay? Yeah, thought so!
Going to be going to Ipswich to look at a car with Louise on Sunday! A green clio - oh my gosh Louise, GREEN & CLIO! Can you hold back the excitement? Haha, thought not!
This is the second day that I have had the RC 9081!
I think that it is an amazing peice of kit, I mean come on - its RC, its fun, its cheap, and it freaking flys! What more could you possibly want? haha! ok, there is quite a bit more that you might well want - but that is not the point!
This is my brother that is holding the camera (thanks Darren) - and its me that is flying (got the control in the hand anyway haha!).
Now, you might say “that it is not exactly doing very much to be quite honest with you“, but, I mean, come off it - its the second day that I have had it!

Are you having a bad day? Are you pissed off? Do you hate it how professional singers go and change the lyrics of their songs without letting anybody know.
At least, that’s how it feels like at times. No matter how well I think I know a song that is currently being played on the radio of over my media player of some sort - and I’m having a little bit of a sing song, There are always a few words that I seem to get Wrong. Now, I think it is not me that is getting the words wrong, but I think it is the particular song file that I am playing.
That is most definitely the reasoning behind it - it just can’t be me singing it wrong, it just cant!!!.
Wouldn’t it be pretty awesome if there was some kind of way that the media player could randomly check to see if a file needs updating, and the singer was to change their files from time to time, just altering the odd word here and there - just to catch them out! haha!
So, I have been up most of the night, and all of today, how insane must I actually be?
I found out the most ridiculous thing today. Every single Saturday of my life, there has always been a posty walk past and sometimes put something into my door. But, it has never ever occurred to me that the postman in the little red van - never comes on a Saturday or a Sunday. I was expecting my loverly RC Helicopter to arrive today as that was the length on the postage request - but it turns out because it was only First Class normal postage - it gets held behind until Monday.
Now, I see this as completely ludicrous. The guy paid first class, for something that is going to take longer than second class - and surly if the people on the bikes do it on a Saturday, why on earth can the van drivers not. I see it as the best time to do it to be quite fair with you. I mean, most people don’t work on a Saturday, so that means that people will actually be home when the guy goes to deliver it.
I had my parachute on ready for my first flight, but, it seems that I am going to have to wait till Monday evening to even USE the god dam thing. I wanted a weekend of fun with it. What makes it even WORSE is the fact that I required 8 AA’s for the transmitter (handset), so I decided to buy 8 rechargeable batteries, now, I thought “OK, it is going to be getting here tomorrow, so I better make sure that these god dam batteries get here on time, or I am just going to get angry!). So, I paid extra cash, which now shows me that it was a complete waste of cash. I just love wasting cash, and my time….
